Special Intensive Revision of voter lists: BLOs to conduct door-to-door visits: Political parties' meeting on 29th
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Electoral Officer Ratan U. Khelkar announced that he will hold discussions with district collectors at 3.30 pm today as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Kerala. A meeting of political parties will be called on the 29th.
The application for the 2.78 crore people currently on the voter list will be ready by tonight. BLOs will visit homes and collect the application. If they are unable to meet the voter, they are instructed to visit their homes three times. Those who cannot produce any documents will get help from the Election Commission's help desk.
All eligible voters will be in the electoral roll in Kerala. SIR will not be a problem for expatriates, as family members can sign the application and add their names. Everyone, including voters from Adivasi Unnathis, has documents. There is currently no crisis in Kerala to implement SIR.
More staff will be assigned to complete SIR as per the schedule suggested by the Election Commission. The Chief Electoral Officer also said that political parties should be prepared to appoint more BLAs accordingly.
2002 list as base document
The previous Special Intensive Revision in Kerala was implemented in 2002. That electoral roll of 2.4 crore voters will be used as the base document for a new SIR process scheduled for 2025. The 2025 electoral roll will have 2.78 crore voters. The Chief Electoral Officer said that the possibility of complaints is low as 68% of the voters in the 2002 electoral roll are included in the draft electoral roll of the SIR. If a person's name is not in the 2002 electoral roll, an identity document proving the relationship must be provided, mentioning the names of the parents in the roll.
