Real-life hostage thriller at Powai: Horror at Mumbai's RA Studio ends with gunning down of hostage taker Rohit Arya
MUMBAI: Twenty children held hostage in Powai were rescued. Rohit Arya was the one who held the children hostage. The locked children were rescued. The accused was injured after he opened fire and the police retaliated. He died during treatment.
The incident took place at RA Studio. The hostage taker had filmed a video after taking the children hostage. Police said that action was taken as soon as the video was noticed and the children were able to be taken to safety. It is not clear what Rohit Arya's demand was.
The video released by the accused starts with a self-introduction. "I, Rohit Arya, have made a plan and kept some children hostage here instead of committing suicide. I don't have many demands, very simple demands, very moral demands, very ethical demands and I have some questions. I want to talk to some people. I want to ask them questions about their answers," Arya said in his video message.
"I am neither a terrorist nor do I demand a large amount of money to free the children. I just want to have a simple conversation, so that I can pressure the authorities to talk to me," he stressed.
Although he did not specify his demands, the suspect did warn that he would hurt the children if his demands were not met. "If I am alive, I will do it. If I die, someone else will do it, but it will definitely happen, because even a small wrong move from you will make me burn this entire place and die in it,' said the suspect.
Arya had lured the group of children through what he described as an “audition.” The children, aged between 8 and 14, were rescued unharmed after being held hostage for about two hours, police said. An air gun and some chemicals have been seized from here. The police said that an investigation is underway into the incident.
