Sabarimala Mandala pilgrimage virtual queue booking begins today, accident insurance option available
PATHANAMTHITTA: The online virtual queue booking for the Sabarimala Mandala pilgrimage will start at 5 PM today. While booking, pilgrims will have the option to pay Rs 5 for accident insurance. Those who opt for insurance will be eligible for compensation of Rs 5 lakh for their dependents in case of accidental death during the pilgrimage. The virtual queue booking ID will serve as the primary document to claim insurance benefits. Employees on Sabarimala duty will also be covered under this scheme. Detailed information about the insurance will be published on the official website later today.
A new Pilgrim Welfare Fund will also be launched this year. Under this scheme, families of devotees who die due to illness during the pilgrimage will receive Rs 3 lakh in financial aid. Discussions are also being held with insurance companies to extend coverage to pilgrims injured in accidents within Kerala. The government currently provides ambulance assistance of up to Rs 30,000 for transporting bodies within the state and up to Rs 1 lakh for those outside Kerala.
