THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Director KP Vyasan levelled strong criticism over controversial rapper Vedan winning the state award this year for best lyricist. In a post shared on social media, Vyasan lambasted the criteria chosen by jury members to gift the award to the young rapper.

K P Vyasan:

“Imagine the state award landing in the hands of actor Dileep instead of Vedan. How much of a fuss would the cabal of cultural icons have created? The media would have conducted a prime-time debate for successive days to hunt Dileep.

Hypocrisy is the hallmark of Malayalees. The state award stipulates that the creator conform to a set of rules, which include accepting the jury’s decision as final, before sending their films for consideration. For the same reason, I accept this year’s awards given to artists across the movie spectrum despite knowing that the chief jury is 'commie' Prakash Raj.

I salute the cultural icons of Kerala and the government who raised panic some years before, after fearing Dileep's chances of winning the award for his performance in ‘Kammara Sambavam’. “
