Railway accident: 68733-MEMU and goods train collide in Bilaspur; six dead, many injured

BILASPUR: A major railway accident has taken place near Lalkhadan in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. A passenger train running on the Howrah route collided head-on with a goods train. Panic spread among the passengers as several coaches of the train derailed. Six people are reported dead in the accident and more than 12 passengers are reported injured. The railway administration immediately sent a rescue team and medical unit to the spot. The local administration also reached for assistance. Train operations on the entire route came to a complete halt due to the accident. Many trains were cancelled or diverted.

The collision happened between a Korba passenger train(number 68733) and a Goods train. The accident occurred on the Bilaspur-Katni railway line, which is the busiest route. Only after investigation will the real cause of this accident be clear.

South East Central Railway General Manager Tarun Prakash and Bilaspur Divisional Railway Manager Rajmal Khoiwal reached the accident site to assess the situation and oversee rescue operations. The injured were provided first aid and transported to the hospital by ambulance.
