MUMBAI: After weeks of speculation, the announcement that cricket fans were waiting for has finally come. Chennai Super Kings have officially announced the addition of Malayali player Sanju Samson to the team. Ravindra Jadeja and England player Sam Curran will be joining Rajasthan in place of Sanju. The Sanju-Jadeja exchange deal was confirmed on Friday afternoon.

Rajasthan retained Sanju in the team last season for Rs 18 crore. Sanju will not get the captaincy when he comes to Chennai. It is reported that MS Dhoni, who has taken over the captaincy from Ruturaj Gaikwad, will lead the team again this time. However, Sanju is more likely to be in the wicketkeeper position.

Sanju Samson had asked Rajasthan Royals to release him after the end of the last season. Since then, there have been strong rumours that the player will leave the team. It was also certain that the player would be transferred to Chennai Super Kings. Later, reports circulated that Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians were also interested in bringing Sanju to their side.

Sanju's shift to CSK has been in the news again since last week. Rajasthan had asked for Ravindra Jadeja and South African youngster Dewald Brevis in exchange for Sanju Samson, but Chennai was not ready to let Brevis go. With this, the talks reached Sam Curran. Rajasthan and Chennai had confirmed the deal two days ago. However, the confirmation was delayed due to some technical issues.

Sanju Samson entered the IPL through Kolkata Knight Riders but did not play a single match for them. Later, he went to Rajasthan Royals. Sanju appeared for Delhi during the two-year break when Rajasthan was banned. From there, he returned to Rajasthan and became the captain of the team. Sanju also helped Rajasthan Royals reach the final in one season.
