Converted religion, nurse in UK, coerced 16-year-old son to join ISIS; Woman under police surveillance in Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman from Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, is under police surveillance for coercing her 16-year-old son to join ISIS. The young woman, a nurse in the UK, arrived in Kerala two weeks ago. The NIA also started an investigation to eke out more of her information. A case was registered under the UAPA in the incident. The investigation is being led by the Attingal DySP.
It is reported that the woman forced her son to join ISIS through a native of Vembayam whom she met in England.
The young woman converted to Islam after she married a native of Pandalam. After getting a job as a nurse, she settled in England with her husband. A rupture occurred in their marital life after the woman became close with the Vembayam native she met in England. This man espoused extremist leanings, which forced the woman’s husband to return home and distance himself from her.
The Vembayam native tried to instil pro-ISIS ideas in the young woman. When the young woman returned home to give birth, she left her son with the man in England. It was during this time that the man coerced him with extremist doctrines to join ISIS. The child's mother also conspired to bring him to the terrorist group, according to the child's statement.
The child, who returned home after completing his 10th-grade studies in England, was received by the brother of the Vembayam native. Surprisingly, this man was previously questioned by the investigation team in connection with the Kanakamala ISIS recruitment case. He was the one who brought the child to an orphanage near Attingal. After noticing a change in the child's behaviour while staying at the orphanage, the authorities informed the child's father. The father went to the Venjaramoodu police and filed a complaint.
After finding that information, a case was registered under the UAPA. The child is currently in the care of his father's relatives.
