KOCHI: The live-in partner of Yuva Morcha district secretary Gopu Paramashivan said she suffered inhumane torture from him for trivial reasons. The woman said Gopu would thrash her using a belt, a charger cable, shoes and a spatula. Last time, she faced torture for keeping his helmet on the floor instead of on the table. She said that Gopu took pleasure in hurting her every day.

'I have been living with him for five years. Except for our relatives, no one knows about our relationship. Gopu tells everyone that he is single. He has been harassing me for about five years. I had had enough of this suffering. Yesterday, he tried to strangle me to death. I lost consciousness and fell to the floor.

He used to harass me every day. I think he left me for dead after strangling me. When I recovered consciousness, I ran to my sister’s house. I feared the fact of filing a complaint for facing retribution from him. Under that house, I was not allowed to talk with anyone or use my phone.

There is no point in filing a complaint with party leaders. He doesn’t fear anyone and leads a carefree life. He can even go to the extent of killing me if he wants. I think even stray dogs get treated better. The sufferings I went through are inexplicable.

After beating me, he would take photos of the bruises on his phone and would ogle at them. He confessed to me of wanting to beat me every day to satiate his pleasure. Whenever he goes out of the house, he locks the door from the outside. The phone he allowed me only had incoming calls.

Whenever any of my relatives called, he would stand near me with a stick and dictate to me what to say. I can’t stand it anymore. I stayed with him in the hope that he would change, but not anymore."

Following the incident, Yuva Morcha District General Secretary Gopu Paramashivan (32) of 'Alukkal house' on Thevara Clint Road, Ernakulam, was arrested by Maradu police. He has been charged with sections, including attempted murder.

It was Philomena Tesik (36), a native of Vaduthala, who was assaulted. She was seriously injured. Following the incident, the BJP expelled Gopu from party’s primary membership.
