Water level in Mullaperiyar dam rises to 140.10 feet, Kerala warned
IDUKKI: The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has reportedly risen to 140.10 feet Wednesday morning. With this, the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department has issued a warning to Kerala. The amount of water being transported by Tamil Nadu has also been increased to 1200 cubic feet per second. The maximum storage capacity of the dam is 142 feet. The strength of the water flow has decreased as the rains have stopped.
The water level, which was 136 feet, reached to 140 in two days. If it reaches 142, the shutters will have to be opened. Although the storage capacity of Tamil Nadu's Vaigai dam is 171 feet, there is currently 161 feet of water. Tamil Nadu can transport about ten feet of water from Mullaperiyar, but Tamil Nadu is not ready for it. In the wake of the court verdict, Tamil Nadu's move is to maintain the water level at 142. The Theni administration issued the first warning at 6 pm yesterday when the water level touched 140 feet.
