THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Notorious thief Bunty Chor (Devinder Singh) has been taken into custody once again. He was detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from the Thampanoor railway station in Thiruvananthapuram. He was found at the station last evening, and the RPF took him into custody to verify why he had come there.

Bunty had only Rs 100 with him when he was detained. He is currently under preventive custody. Yesterday, he had gone to the Peroorkada police station claiming that he had to get back Rs 76,000. As he had no documents to prove it, the police asked him to leave. He then went to the railway station, where the RPF found him.

The Kerala Police first arrested Bunty Chor in January 2013 for a burglary at a house in Marappalam, Thiruvananthapuram. After completing his sentence, he had told jail officials that he would stop stealing. However, he went on to commit another theft and was arrested again. Following several years in prison, he was released, and there had been no significant information about him until recently. On Sunday night, around 8 p.m., the Ernakulam South Railway Police took him into custody again.

Bunty had arrived in Kochi from Delhi by train and spent a long time at the railway station waiting area. Officers became suspicious based on his appearance and confirmed that it was indeed Bunty Chor. Police suspected he might have come to plan another theft.

After keeping him in preventive custody for more than 10 hours, the police released him. There were no warrants against him, and it became clear that he had come to Kerala to meet his lawyer. He said he needed to collect two bags, Rs 76,000, and a mobile phone seized earlier by the police in connection with a case in Thrissur. He told police he had come to meet advocate BR Aloor for this, and only later came to know that Aloor had passed away.

After meeting Aloor’s junior lawyers, Bunty left. He was carrying only one bag, which contained clothes. He is currently out on bail in cases registered in Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Thiruvananthapuram.
