NEW DELHI: The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in India. The announcement was made at the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly held in Glasgow, with Ahmedabad being officially awarded as the city to host the event. On November 15, the Commonwealth Sports Executive recommended Ahmedabad as the host. Representatives of 74 Commonwealth member countries approved India at the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly.

Apart from India, Nigeria, an African representative, was a contender to host the event. International Olympic Committee member and Reliance Foundation Founder and Chairwoman Nita Ambani had earlier stated that recommending India to host the Commonwealth Games is a proud achievement for the country's sports milieu. India will host the Commonwealth Games after two decades. Delhi previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

India, which already started preparations to host the 2036 Olympics, had eyes set on hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
