THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader K Muraleedharan came forward responding to the case registered against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in the sexual abuse complaint. He said suspending him is equal to expelling him from the party. He said the party will not provide protection to the accused.

‘Strict action will be taken against Rahul only after examining the circumstances. The Congress has nothing more to do on this issue. Therefore, not interested in the present controversies. More things can be considered when Rahul is arrested. The party has nothing to do with his MLA post. Rahul himself should think about it. Suspension is equivalent to being expelled from the party for six years.

As long as this exists, Rahul will not be able to participate in party programs or contest elections. Rahul has not attended any official programs while under suspension. He has not shared the stage with party leaders. The party will now handle this carefully. The party has no responsibility in arranging his protection. We need not investigate his absconding. KPCC president should say the party's opinion. Rahul has to decide whether he should resign or not. The accused should protect themselves. No one should think that this will cover up the gold loot in Sabarimala. We will respond strongly,' said Muraleedharan.
