'Abortion was carried out in second month of pregnancy, received unsafe medicines'; serious allegations in complaint against Rahul Mamkootathil
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The sexual harassment case against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil has gained further momentum after the complainant raised serious allegations in her complaint to the police. In her complaint, the woman stated that she underwent an abortion in the second month of pregnancy and later became mentally exhausted. The investigation team had collected her medical records the other day. According to the documents, she took the abortion pills on May 30, after which she experienced severe bleeding. She had received two medications for the abortion. Following the bleeding, she sought treatment at both a government hospital and a private hospital.
The doctor who treated her also told the investigators that the medicines administered to her were unsafe. Police have collected these details as well. Meanwhile, the search for Rahul, who has been on the run since the complaint was filed, and his friend Jobin Joseph has intensified. Police have also initiated the process for their arrest. Officials clarified that the MLA’s anticipatory bail application does not prevent the arrest from being carried out.
Police have denied reports claiming that Rahul Mamkootathil had arrived in Vanchiyoor the other day and signed documents before a lawyer. The ADGP in charge of law and order has instructed all districts to conduct detailed investigations. The woman has been provided police protection. Investigators visited the flat where the assault is alleged to have occurred and prepared a mahazar. More witness statements are expected to be recorded today.
According to the woman’s statement, she met Rahul Mamkootathil after her first marriage had ended. She said they got married at a temple on August 22, 2024, although it was not legally registered.
