'Stunned on hearing remuneration; reason behind wearing big bindi’; serial actress Karthika Kannan reveals

Karthika Kannan is a familiar face to the Malayalam audience from the television serial industry. She gained popularity playing mostly character and villain roles. Karthika now revealed about the changes that came in the serial industry and the peculiarities in her attire in an interview given to a YouTube channel.

“I wear big bindi in both serial and my real life. That is a trademark. This is a part of my life.

Remuneration:

I happened to watch YouTube videos about the remuneration and age of serial actresses. One day, I was stunned to hear somebody talking about my own remuneration. How do they know about the amount credited to my account? Those YouTubers are lying with a straight face. I started my acting career as a heroine. However, later I resorted to roles of villain and jealous characters. I had no complaints because those roles struck a chord with the public. One day at a temple, an elderly woman came to scold me. She cursed me, thinking I was the same person I played in serials.

Changes in industry:

In the past, I struggled a lot to come to the locations. While acting as the heroine for the first time, we couldn’t get any trains or flights. Production provided only enough money to travel by the transport bus. Now it’s a time when even the fresher actors are coming to sets in Benz. We came after struggling a lot. We got the benefit of it. Back then, I didn’t get a chair, even when I did heroine roles. We’d get up and leave the chair for the senior artists. But the kids today won’t do anything like that. Many things have changed in the serial industry’- said Karthika.
