Action if complaint is received; uniform mandatory and no sitting inside official vehicle: DGP's directive regarding vehicle inspection
THRISSUR: It is against the law for the police to stop a vehicle for inspection and then call out, "Eda, come here...". Police officers should go to the vehicle and check the documents instead. The DGP clarified this in a Right to Information application. Action will be taken if a complaint is received against those who are checking vehicles while sitting in a police jeep. Vehicle inspection should not be carried out without wearing the uniform cap. The law requires officers and policemen from the rank of DySP and below to wear uniforms and caps while inspecting or collecting fines. The DGP said that a circular has been sent to all stations clarifying these matters. The police have the right to work without wearing a cap only in situations such as indoor work, emergency operations, mufti duty, extreme weather, and duty where helmets are used.
Attitude
A police officer in a parked jeep will wave to stop the vehicle. He will show his hand to come over with the document. This is the norm. Even police jeep drivers show the same attitude.
Can be taken on mobile
The police can collect evidence on camera if they sense a traffic violation. Even a mobile camera can be used. The public can also send photos and videos to 9747001099 if they see a traffic violation.
