KSRTC's progress with no impact on minister's constituency; embarrassing defeat for LDF at Pathanapuram

KOLLAM: Big setback for LDF at Pathanapuram in Kollam, the constituency of the minister of road transport K B Ganesh Kumar. UDF has secured a huge victory at Pathanapuram village panchayat and block panchayat by defeating LDF. UDF managed to win 10 out of 14 wards in the Pathanapuram block panchayat. UDF won in 10 out of 20 seats in the village panchayat. LDF could secure only seven seats. The remaining three seats were won by SDPI, the Welfare Party and an independent candidate. Pathanapuram village panchayat and block panchayat were under the rule of LDF.

The LDF is facing this massive defeat in the minister's constituency in the Local body elections held 25 years after the formation of the Kollam Corporation. UDF has not managed such a drastic progress recently in the Kollam corporation. Many lost in the election including the present and former mayors.

LDF has a clear history of victory in the Kollam corporation, formed in 2000. The UDF and the LDF got 23 seats each in the first election held in 2000 when Kollam, which was a municipal city, became a corporation city. The left front seized power by bringing together two Congressmen who had contested as rebels. Since then, the Left Front has continued to rule until today.
