Renowned journalist G Vinod passes away
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior journalist and Malayala Manorama Thiruvananthapuram Special Correspondent G. Vinod (54) passed away on Saturday. He died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The funeral will be held today (14th) at 4 pm at Saanthi Kavadam cremation ground in Thycaud.
He is survived by his wife, Sindhu Suryakumar, Executive Editor at Asianet News, and their son Ishan, a Class 5 student of L'école Chempaka School, Edavacode, Sreekaryam.
Vinod was the son of the late Gopinatha Panicker, a retired Statistics Officer at the University of Kerala, and Ramadevi, a former employee of the University of Kerala. He lived at Sharada Nivas, Murinjapalam, near the Medical College.
A respected journalist known for his strong reporting and investigative stories, Vinod received several awards from the State Government, the Press Academy, the Mumbai Press Club and the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club. He also won Malayala Manorama’s Chief Editor’s Gold Medal for Best Journalist in 2005.
Vinod began his journalism career at Rashtradeepika and joined Malayala Manorama in 2002. From then on, he worked with the newspaper’s Thiruvananthapuram bureau. During his college days, he served as the Union Chairman at Chempazhanthy S.N. College.
