Consensus with Governor: Kerala University Registrar Anil Kumar transferred, appointed as college principal
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala University Registrar Dr. K. S. Anil Kumar has been transferred to DB College, Sasthamcotta. The appointment is as Principal. The government order states that the transfer was made at the request of Anil Kumar. Vice Chancellor and Governor Rajendra Arlekar had earlier suspended Anil Kumar in the Bharathamba controversy.
The Registrar's suspension was triggered by problems arising from a seminar organised by the Sri Padmanabha Seva Samiti at the Kerala University Senate Hall in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. The Governor was the chief guest. An opportunity was provided to offer floral tributes to the saffron-flagged Bharathamba's picture. Noticing this, the Registrar made it clear that the picture should be removed or the ceremony would not be allowed. He then denied permission for the event.
The Raj Bhavan sought an explanation from the VC regarding the denial of permission for the event attended by the Governor, who is also the Chancellor, and based on this, the VC reported to the Governor against the Registrar. The Governor, after examining the report, directed the VC to suspend Anil Kumar. The government's support was with Anil Kumar.
Anil Kumar had approached the High Court seeking cancellation of the suspension and reinstatement. It is noteworthy that the government has issued the order while the court is scheduled to consider this petition tomorrow. The new move comes after the row with the governor on the university issue reached a consensus.
