8600 stray dogs to be caught: Full soundproof facility to keep canines: Chennai Model Centre coming to Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A state-of-the-art ABC centre is going to be set up in Thiruvallam to address the problem of stray dogs in the capital. The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has started the process of setting up an Animal Birth Control Centre and a veterinary hospital on the model of the new centre in Chennai. The goal is to sterilise up to 40 dogs per day.
The state-of-the-art ABC Centre set up by the Greater Chennai Corporation at Vandithadam is sterilising 30 dogs every day. This project was implemented at a cost of Rs. 7 crore. The plan is to set up an ABC Centre in Thiruvallam on the same model. If the initial approval is received, the corporation officials said that they will visit the center in Chennai by next month and give the final shape.
The Corporation authorities said that the centre in Chennai will be visited by next month if the preliminary approval is received, and the project will be finalised.
🔸 Cost of 4.5 crores
🔸 Shelter to rehabilitate 200 stray dogs
🔸 40 dogs can be sterilised daily
🔸 Pharmacy for medicines
🔸 License facility for pet dogs
🔸 Conference room
Full soundproof
A full soundproof system will be created so that the barking of dogs is not heard outside. The centre will be set up in a completely covered manner, without nets and fences. There will be a pet emergency and multi-speciality departments. The operation centre and the sterilising centre will be air-conditioned. The main objection of the public against the decision to establish a dog rehabilitation centre and an ABC centre is the barking of dogs and other environmental pollution. Scientific systems are also being implemented to prevent pollution in the new centre.
8600 Stray Dogs
The authorities say that there are 8600 stray dogs in the city to be sterilised. The aim is to complete this within a year. Around ten dogs are sterilised every day at the existing sterilising centres in Pettah and Thiruvallam. The new plan is being prepared because the existing centres are inadequate to sterilise so many dogs.
