MALAPPURAM: Inter-state private bus services suddenly doubled ticket prices to exploit Malayalees returning home for the Christmas and New Year holidays. From the 22nd to the 24th, tickets on the Bengaluru and Chennai routes to Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode are being charged an average of more than Rs 1,500 extra. The increase in air ticket prices and the shortage of train tickets have taken a double toll on passengers.

KSRTC also increased ticket prices in the name of flexi fare. The Bengaluru-Kochi AC multi-axle fare was increased from Rs 1,600 to Rs 2,200-2,665. From today to January 6th, KSRTC will operate 54 special services on the Bengaluru-Chennai route.
