Ramnarayan brutally assaulted, fell to the ground spitting blood; shocking details regarding Walayar mob lynching of Chhattisgarh native

PALAKKAD: Police say that a mob beat up a Chhattisgarh native in Attapallam after questioning him for several hours. Ramnarayan Bhaiyar, who fell to the ground and spat blood after being beaten, was beaten up by the mob after being asked if he was a Bangladeshi. Five people have been arrested in the incident. The Walayar police have arrested Attapallam natives Anu (38), Prasad (34), Murali (38), Anandan (55) and Vipin (30).

A case has been registered under Section 103 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The arrested persons were produced in court after medical examination and remanded. 10 people were taken into custody, but a case has been registered against five. More accused are yet to be arrested.

Ramnarayanan Bhaiyar was beaten up at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday near Matalikadu in Attapallam. Locals say that Ramnarayanan was found suspiciously at a place where NREGA workers were working. He was drunk. After the NREGA workers informed, the youths nearby accused him of theft and brutally beat him up. However, he did not have any stolen goods in his hand. The man, who was coughing up blood, collapsed and was taken to the Palakkad District Hospital in an ambulance hours later. He was dead by the time the ambulance reached the district hospital. Ramnarayanan's wife and children will start from Chhattisgarh tomorrow. The tehsildar announced that the government will make all arrangements to transport the body.

Human Rights Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas has suo motu registered a case and ordered an investigation into the incident. The Palakkad District Police Chief has been directed to submit a report within three weeks.

Serious injuries to the body

The postmortem of Ramnarayanan Bhaiyar's body was conducted at Thrissur Medical College. The cause of death was serious injuries to the head and body. More than 40 injuries were found on his body. There are marks of beating with a stick on his back. There are also signs of being kicked and dragged on the ground. An X-ray taken before the postmortem showed that there was bleeding on the head.

Arrived in Kerala four days ago

Ramnarayanan Bhaiyar's family has denied the allegations that he is a thief. Ramnarayanan's relative Shashikant Baghel said that Ramnarayanan had come to Palakkad four days ago in search of work and that he was not accused in a single case in his hometown. Ramnarayanan was about to return home because he did not like his job. He may have lost his way and reached the scene of the incident. He does not have any mental problems. Although he drinks alcohol, he does not get into trouble with anyone. Shashikant Baghel said that Ramnarayanan has two children aged eight and ten.
