State bids adieu to veteran actor Sreenivasan; Laid to rest with full state honours

KOCHI: The state has bid adieu to veteran Malayalam actor, director and screenwriter Sreenivasan. He was laid to rest with full state honours Sunday morning at 11.50 am at the premises of his house Palazhi on Kandanad Vattukunnu Road in Udayamperoor. As a symbol of his writing, paper and pen were placed along with his body on the pyre. Wishing everyone well was written on the paper.

The actor’s eldest son Vineeth Sreenivasan lit the funeral pyre. There was a large crowd in the house to pay their last tributes. His body was cremated, leaving friends, colleagues and thousands of fans in tears.

He was born on April 4 in 1951 at Patiyam in Thalassery as the son of Unni and Lakshmi. His schooling was in Kadirur Government School and took his graduation from Pazhassi Raja NSS College. Later took diploma in film acting from the Film Chamber Institute in Madras. He was a classmate of superstar Rajinikanth. The films Chinthavishtaya Shyamala and Vadakkunokkiyanthram, written, directed and acted by Sreenivasan, have won national and state film awards.

He entered the film industry via Manimuzhakkam directed by P A Bakkar in 1977. He penned the story for Odaruthammava Aalariyam in 1984. He leaves behind his wife Vimala, sons Vineeth Sreenivasan, Dhyan Sreenivasan and daughters-in-law Divya Narayanan and Arpita Sebastian.
