First complaint new mayor received is against former mayor: New allegation against Arya Rajendran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first complaint received by the new mayor V.V. Rajesh after taking office is against former mayor Arya Rajendran. The complaint was filed by former councilor Sreekumar, alleging widespread corruption in the activities of the previous governing body of the municipal corporation and demanding an investigation. The complaint also states that the local fund audit report mentions corruption in the activities of Arya Rajendran.
Former mayor Arya Rajendran has faced accusations regarding illegal and biased appointments within the city corporation, with claims that jobs were reserved for CPI(M) party workers. A controversial leaked letter, allegedly from her to the CPI(M) district secretary, asking for a list of party members for sanitation jobs, fueled these allegations. This led to accusations of corruption, nepotism, and a violation of her oath of office, with a Youth Congress leader describing her as "India's youngest corrupt woman".
