Bird flu in Alappuzha, restrictions in Thiruvalla taluk as well, ban on sale of eggs and meat of domesticated birds
PATHANAMTHITTA: Restrictions have been imposed in more panchayats in the wake of bird flu being confirmed in various panchayats in Alappuzha district. Restrictions have been imposed in Thiruvalla taluk of Pathanamthitta district, which is within a radius of 10 km from the epicentre. Since Niranam, Kadapra and Peringara panchayats fall under the surveillance zone, the use and sale of duck, chicken, quail and other domesticated birds, eggs, frozen meat, other bird products and droppings (manure) have been banned here. Trafficking of birds and bird products has also been banned. The ban will be for seven days from December 28, said District Collector S Premkrishnan, who is also the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority.
The concerned local body secretaries should form a squad and conduct inspections. The Thiruvalla Tahsildar should ensure the ban. A food safety officer has been tasked with ensuring that food products made with banned products are not sold in the restricted area.
