Malayali catholic priest arrested in Canada for sexually abusing minor

TORONTO: Canadian police arrested a Malayali Catholic priest on charges of sexually abusing a minor.
Father James Cherikal (60), serving in the Archdiocese of Toronto, was arrested in the incident. He is a native of Kozhikode.
James Cherikal had been serving as a pastor at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Brompton since 2024. The Archdiocese of Toronto dismissed Fr. James Cherikal after the incident came to light.
The police registered a case against Fr. James Cherikal on December 18.
