Defeated by anti-government sentiment, gold theft also became setback: CPI working report with criticism
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI working report states that the reason for the LDF's defeat in the local body elections is anti-government sentiment. The report also mentions that shortcomings in government activities, the gold looting at Sabarimala, and statements made to provoke minorities were also the reasons for the defeat. The report, which included the opinions of district, secretariat and executive members, was presented at the state council meeting.
The unexpected defeat in the elections had led to criticism in the CPI state council against the Chief Minister and the CPM leadership. The district secretaries were the main critics. The criticism was that the CPM is dominating the government and the front, and that the Chief Minister decides everything.
Expected votes not received
- The report also mentions that there is strong criticism among various sections of the population who loved the LDF. Many people who were expected to vote did not vote. The election results prove that they voted against LDF
- Only the LDF state committee meets. Meetings are not held at the constituency and panchayat levels. This makes collective work difficult. Meetings should be held up to the panchayat level in view of the assembly elections
