KOLLAM: All Postmasters vanished from the Kollam Postal Division in a single day. Do not think they all retired or were dismissed. It was a mistake by the Kollam Divisional Superintendent's office that eliminated the postmasters from the Kollam, Karunagappally, and Kottarakkara head post offices, as well as 91 sub-post offices.

The designation of the postmasters was incorrectly written as 'Postal Assistant' when the new identity cards were printed. All the employees had applied for ID cards with their posts written correctly. However, the big mistake was caused by the lack of attention at the divisional office. The employees inquired at the divisional office about what happened, but did not get a proper explanation.

Employees say that higher officials are shirking their responsibility by saying that they will not issue cards because of the cost of printing and that employees do not have to return the cards they have received. The cards that have been received now are valid for three years. Employees are strictly required to wear the identity card while at work, but the postmasters ask what the point of wearing an identity card mentioning the wrong designation is.

If a new card is to be printed, money will have to be spent from the hands of the officials who supervised the printing of the previous card. Since employees are not getting a definite answer from anywhere, they are preparing to understand the matter with the help of the Right to Information Act.
