Violence continues in Bangladesh; Hindu youth beaten up, stabbed to death
DHAKA: Violence against minorities continues in Bangladesh. A Hindu youth was beaten by a mob and later stabbed to death. The victim has been identified as Sameer Das (28), an auto-rickshaw driver from Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni district.
After killing him, the attackers fled with Sameer’s auto-rickshaw. The incident took place on Sunday night. When he did not return home for a long time, his relatives began searching for him. On Monday, his body was found in a farmland in Jagatpur village. Police reached the spot after being informed by local residents and shifted the body to a hospital. Police said it was a planned murder and that Sameer was killed using sharp weapons. They said the accused would be arrested soon. The body had several injury marks. Police also confirmed that the auto-rickshaw was stolen.
This is the ninth murder reported within 24 days. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, a human rights organisation, has strongly condemned the incident and expressed serious concern over the rising religious discrimination and increasing attacks against minority communities across the country.
