First Central Committee meeting after MA Baby became General Secretary: CPM assesses election situation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM Central Committee meeting that began yesterday assessed the situation of the assembly elections in Kerala. The meeting also assessed the political situation in the states of Tamil Nadu, Bengal, Assam and Puducherry, where elections are due. The situation in Kerala, the only state where the party is in power, will be discussed in detail today and tomorrow. This is the first Central Committee meeting to be held in Kerala after M.A. Baby became the General Secretary.

The meeting chaired by M.A. Baby was followed by reporting and general discussions yesterday. The party secretaries of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bengal, Puducherry and Assam presented a report on the preparations for the assembly elections and the current influence of the party. The protest programs to be launched at the national level against the central government will be discussed today.

The changes made by the Centre in the Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Labour Code, the Central Draft Seed Bill, and the persecution of minorities in North Indian states will be discussed. Detailed discussions and decisions to maintain governance in Kerala will be taken today and tomorrow.

The provision that those who have contested two terms should abstain from the elections was implemented in Kerala with the approval of the central committee. The state leadership has decided to relax the term system to maintain power. This issue will also be discussed in the meeting.
