Suicide due to viral bus video: Human Rights Commission demands DIG probe into Deepak's death
KOZHIKODE: The Human Rights Commission has asked the North Zone DIG to investigate the incident in which Deepak committed suicide after his video went viral on social media.
The commission's judicial member K Baijunath asked for the investigation report to be submitted within a week. The case will be considered in a sitting to be held at the Kozhikode Public Works Rest House on February 19. The complaints state that Deepak became depressed after the content creator made the video public and this is what led to his suicide. The action was taken on the complaints filed by Adv V Devadas and Abdul Rahim Pookath.
Deepak committed suicide after a woman shared a video on social media accusing him of touching her inappropriately during a bus ride. The video taken by the woman was widely circulated on social media. More than 20 lakh people watched and shared the video. Many people came forward both in favour of and against the woman. The incident took place when Deepak, a salesman at a clothing store, was leaving the Payyannur railway station by bus last Friday.
Deepak, who had entered his room at home on Saturday evening, was found dead in his room yesterday morning. Relatives and locals alleged that the woman had spread false news on social media and that Deepak was under severe mental stress. Deepak's relatives filed a complaint against the woman.
