Woman likely absconding, cyber police to collect Instagram account details
KOZHIKODE: Police got information that the woman, who filmed and circulated the viral video from the crowded bus, is absconding. The Kozhikode Medical College Police intensified the search for the accused, Shimjitha Mustafa, a native of Vadakara. The police registered a case against the woman for abetment to suicide on the complaint of the mother of Deepak, a native of Govindapuram. Deepak committed suicide in humiliation after the video shared by the woman went viral across social media. The woman alleged that she was touched inappropriately by Deepak inside the crowded bus that was plying through Payyanur.
Following Deepak's death, the family had filed a complaint against the woman with the Chief Minister and the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner. The police registered a case after recording the statement of the woman.
The phone on which the woman recorded the footage will be taken into custody. The police have collected the footage shared by the woman on social media. The help of the cyber police has also been sought to collect the information from the woman's Instagram account. The woman had claimed that she had informed the Vadakara police about her horrific experience during the bus journey. However, the Vadakara inspector clarified that no such complaint was received. Following strong criticism on social media, the woman deleted her Instagram and FB accounts.
The Human Rights Commission has ordered the Northern Region DIG to conduct a direct investigation into the incident. The order is to submit an investigation report within a week.
