Late twist in Elamakkara accident case; New CCTV footage solves mystery
KOCHI: The mystery surrounding the accident involving Plus One student Dikshitha of Bhavans School in Elamakkara is now cleared. Although the initial conclusion was that the student was hit by a car, it has finally been revealed that the accident was caused by the careless opening of the door of an Eco van parked on the roadside. The real truth behind the accident was revealed after new CCTV footage emerged. The driver of the van, Raji, a native of Subhash Nagar, was taken into custody by the police.
Prashanth Kumar's daughter Dikshitha, a native of Halifax Enclave near Puthukkalavattom Mahadeva temple, was seriously injured in the accident that occurred on the evening of January 15th. Locals took Dikshitha to the hospital in Palarivattom and then admitted her to Aster Medicity.
It was initially thought that the Kia Sonet car seen in the footage at the time of the accident had hit the girl. Suspicion was heightened when the car moved forward a little after the accident, slowed down, and then continued without stopping. Police had summoned the car driver and questioned other passengers too, but were unable to solve the mystery. The driver reiterated that his car didn’t hit the cycle and admitted that he slowed down after seeing the accident.
It was in the detailed investigation that the police found the real culprit behind the accident. The eco van carrying school children was parked on the roadside. When the child approached the van through the aisle of the road, Raji, unaware of the cycle passing through the route, opened the door.
The cycle handle touched the door, leading to loss of control. The child landed flat on the road, hitting her head. Raji had rushed to pick the child up and comfort her. However, seeing more locals reaching the spot to enquire about the incident, Raji wriggled out and drove away in her Eco van. Raji was identified and arrested by the police after new CCTV footage emerged.
