Sabarimala gold theft: K P Sankaradas shifted from Medical College Hospital to Poojappura Central Jail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Devaswom Board member K.P. Sankaradas, who was remanded in connection with the Sabarimala gold theft case, has been shifted to jail. He was moved from the Medical College Hospital to Poojappura Central Jail late at night. Sankaradas is the 11th accused in the case. After examining his medical records, the jail medical officer admitted him to the hospital cell inside the jail. The decision to discharge him from the hospital was taken based on the recommendation of the medical board that met earlier today.

Sankaradas was admitted to the ICU of the Medical College Hospital on the 17th of this month. The medical board stated that his health condition had improved and that he did not require further hospital treatment, following which the authorities decided to shift him to jail. A report on this will be submitted to the court on the 27th.

Meanwhile, Murari Babu, former Administrative Officer, was granted bail in two cases related to the Sabarimala gold theft. Following the court order, he was released from jail. Murari Babu had been arrested in connection with the theft of gold from the Dwarapalaka idols in the sanctum sanctorum and from the strong room.

The Kollam Vigilance Court Judge C.S. Mohith granted him statutory bail as the charge sheet was not filed even after 90 days of arrest. Murari Babu is the first accused in the Sabarimala gold theft cases to be released from jail. The court granted bail on the condition that he provide two sureties and a bond of Rs 2 lakh.
