Malayali student among seven killed at Hoskote near Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Reports said that a Malayali is among the seven killed in an accident at Hoskote on the Karnataka border. Ashwin Nair (17), a Malayali student of R V College in Yelahanka has been identified. The speeding car first hit a bike and then rammed on to a goods lorry after losing control.

Six in the car including Ashwin died on the spot itself. The car's occupants have been identified as Arhan Sharif, Ayan Ali (17), Bharath (18) of Frazer Town and Ethan George (17). The identity of one more student is yet to be ascertained. They were reportedly on their way to celebrate the completion of their exams. Biker Gagan (26) of Devanayakanahalli, also died on the spot. Gagan is an employee of a factory in Hoskote. He met with the accident while returning from work. The police said that they are informing the relatives of the dead and that further investigation will be conducted. It is not yet clear whether the people in the car were classmates or friends.

The accident happened Friday morning at 4.50 am near M Satyavara village on the Hoskote-Dabaspete national highway. In the impact of the collision, the rear axle of the lorry broke, causing it to overturn on the service road after hitting a barrier. Locals rushed to the spot and engaged in the rescue operations. Officials from the Sulibele police station inspected the spot and collected evidence. The bodies have been shifted to the Hoskote government hospital for postmortem. The damaged vehicles were removed from the main road by the help of a crane.
