Swaraj Trophy: Thiruvananthapuram best corporation; Kollam tops district panchayats, Guruvayur in municipalities

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam have been adjudged the best corporation and district panchayat in Kerala, respectively. Minister MB Rajesh announced the Swaraj Trophies for local bodies carrying out best governance, development and welfare activities.

Kannur is second among corporations. Guruvayur came first among municipalities. Mattanur and Kunnamkulam came second and third. Thiruvananthapuram Uzhamalackal bagged the first position among grama panchayats. Elavally and Maniyur panchayats are in second and third positions.

Nemom came first in the blocks. Kodakara and Perumpadappu blocks are next in line, respectively.

The gram panchayats securing the first, second and third positions at the state level will receive Rs 50 lakh, Rs 40 lakh and Rs 30 lakh, respectively. Municipalities and block panchayats will receive the same amount. The municipal corporation that wins the first position will receive 50 lakhs. The district panchayats that secure the first and second positions will get Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 40 lakh each.

• Municipality: 1. Alappuzha Municipality, 2. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

• Mahatma Ayyankali Award (City): Best Municipality - Shoranur (1st place), Thanur (2nd place). Best Corporation - Kollam.

Mahatma Award (Rural - State Level)

Block Panchayat: 1. Perunkadavila, 2. Chirayinkeezhu, 3. Nemom (all Thiruvananthapuram district).

Grama Panchayat: 1. Edavaka (Wayanad), 2. Kallikkad (Thiruvananthapuram), 3. Perunkadavila (Thiruvananthapuram).
