Crucial milestone in India's development journey

The most important of the world-changing inventions of the last century was electricity. The change was radical enough that it upended the hitherto human lifestyle. People didn’t deter from using electricity even though it could produce life-ending shocks. Every new invention and technology has two sides. The Prime Minister needs a soldier with a gun as protective armour. Terrorists use the same gun to shoot innocent people. People blaming the gun in this case cut a sorry figure and put their imprudence on display.

When it comes to 2026, no big invention can rival Artificial Intelligence. It is arguably the biggest technological revolution in the world right now. Some centres are now focusing on the negative aspects of artificial intelligence. This is not pragmatic. People who once blamed computers turned out to be avid users of the same. Similarly, there is no question that those blaming AI now will depend on it in the near future. Till recent years, humans thought that it would be impossible for machines to work on their own without human assistance. However, AI’s introduction proved them wrong.

It cannot be denied that AI is empowered lethally enough to harm humans to the maximum. Albeit this, it is not wise to give up on AI. It is in this context that the Artificial Intelligence Summit hosted by India should be assessed. The India AI Impact Summit has begun in Delhi to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by AI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the exhibition as part of the summit. The main sessions will be held on the 19th and 20th. Company heads and representatives from Thiruvananthapuram Technopark and Kochi Info Park from Kerala are participating in the summit.

The fact that 24 heads of state and 60 foreign ministers handling AI will attend the summit increases its importance tenfold. The summit will feature global discussions on innovation, collaboration and responsible use of AI. Although AI summits have been held in the UK, South Korea and France before, this is the first such gathering in a developing country. The world is eagerly awaiting the summit being held in India as the most suitable place for AI-based industries. The event, which will feature 600 startups and is expected to attract 250,000 visitors, will feature over 500 sessions and over 3,000 speakers. The AI summit is expected to be a crucial milestone in India's development journey.
