HYDERABAD: A 29-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her ex-husband at her house in Hyderabad’s Vanasthalipuram on Wednesday afternoon. The dead is Sunitha, a resident of Green City Flats in Vanasthalipuram. The police have arrested her ex-husband Deverakonda Mahesh. Mahesh barged into her flat, locked the room where Sunitha was staying from inside and then brutally attacked her with the knife in his hand. Sunitha died on the spot after being stabbed multiple times in various parts of her body, including the head. Mahesh had entered the flat with a bag containing two knives, a petrol bottle and a chainsaw to execute the murder. When the family members rushed to the spot after hearing Sunitha's screams, they found her lying in a pool of blood. At this time, the accused entered the bathroom and locked it from inside. The two software professionals got married in 2022. The accused had earlier worked in Canada and she had later joined him. There were some differences of opinion between the two and she later returned to India. Sunita then filed a domestic violence complaint against Mahesh. Following this, a lookout circular was issued against him. The couple divorced in 2024 and she married again in 2025 and was living in Vanasthalipuram. Mahesh returned to India last year following his mother's death. A lookout circular was issued against him because of the domestic violence case and his passport was seized. He could not return to Canada because of this. He felt that he and his family had faced mental suffering because of her. He also believed that his mother’s death was due to this.

Police said the murder was motivated by anger over his inability to go to Canada and Sunita starting a new life. The police caught the accused by breaking the door of the bathroom. A murder case has been filed against him.
