‘Woman likely to be subjected to surgery today to remove forceps, health minister has not yet responded to issue’
ALAPPUZHA: Shibin, son of Usha Joseph, victim of medical negligence at Vandanam Medical College, said that she may likely to undergo a surgery on Friday to remove the forceps. A decision on when to perform the surgery will be taken after expert doctors arrive in the morning. Shibin said that they will move legally against the medical negligence and sought action against the doctor who performed the surgery. He added that the health minister has not yet responded to the issue.
‘Depend on government hospitals due to financial crisis. Only the poor undergo such difficulties. The others are not facing such issues. Took an X-ray as the doctors suspected kidney stone. An official complaint will be filed with the police,' said Shibin.
Forceps were found in the stomach of Usha Joseph of Punnapra, who underwent surgery at Vandanam Medical College in Alappuzha five years ago. Usha underwent surgery at Alappuzha Medical College on May 5, 2021 to remove a uterine fibroid. Although the fibroid was successfully removed, she was experiencing constant stomach pain after that. She moved forward by taking medications including painkillers. Usha and her family are planning to file a complaint against the hospital authorities for such severe medical negligence.
Usha visited the hospital again after experiencing severe pain even after the surgery. However, the hospital authorities informed that the issue was due to kidney stones and sent her back. An X-Ray taken at a private lab revealed the presence of forceps in her stomach. After finding it in her stomach, the medical college authorities said it can be removed by a surgery on Monday. However, Usha, a victim of medical negligence said that she is afraid to go to Vandanam for the surgery.
