Loses son born six years after marriage, Malayali family pardons driver after accident claims toddler’s life
SHARJAH: A Malayali family has pardoned the driver involved in an accident leading to the death of their son born six years after their marriage. Alan Rumi (two), son of Sharafuddin and Safna of Nelloli in Malappuram, died in an accident in Sharjah. The incident happened on February 11. The vehicle unexpectedly ran over the child who was playing.
Sharafuddin and Safna had informed the police in writing that they had no complaints on their son’s death. Safna came to visit her husband on a visiting visa with her son. When Safna went to dump garbage in the parking area near the flat, Alan suddenly ran free and moved too close to a car that was being driven out, leaving the driver unable to stop in time. The driver had not seen the child.
The driver himself rushed them to a hospital but his life could not be saved and he died due to internal bleeding. The family had planned to celebrate Ramzan and Eid together and celebrate Alan's second birthday on April 23 in a big way when the tragedy struck them. After laying the body to rest in Dubai, the couple returned home. Before returning, they had informed the Sharjah police that they had no complaints against the driver. The case is presently under the consideration of public prosecution. Sharafuddin said that if he is hanged, we are not going to get our son back and doesn’t want another family to be in tears.
