Singer dies after van carrying folksong team meets with accident

KOLLAM: A singer died after the pickup van carrying a folksong team rammed on to a tree. The dead is Lakshmi (20), daughter of Balu and Sheeba of Chithara in Kadakkal. The incident happened on the Kottarakkara-Bharanikkavu main road Saturday morning at Cinemaparambu. The accident happened when the five-member folksong group from Mynagappally was returning from the programme in Chadayamangalam.

The pickup van rammed on to a tree near a beverages outlet. Initial information from the police says that the driver may have fallen asleep. Lakshmi's body has been shifted to the mortuary of the Sasthamkotta Taluk Hospital. The youths who were with her sustained serious injuries. They are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sasthamkotta.
