It was sniffer dog Tyson who guided security forces to kill three terrorists, including Saifullah Baloch, a top commander of the Pakistani terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed, in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. The German Shepherd, a member of the Army's 2 Para (Special Forces) unit, was part of the operation.
When Tyson found the small mud hut where the terrorists were hiding in the forest of Chatru sector, he rushed towards it. The terrorists opened fire on the dog as it closed in. Despite being seriously injured in the leg, Tyson rushed forward with extraordinary courage. The arrival of the army soon after Tyson cut off the terrorists' escape route. Saifullah, who had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head, was also killed in the encounter. The security forces had been searching for them for over a month. Tyson, who was airlifted to a hospital in Udhampur, is in a stable condition.
