Rain in five districts, weather warning for next five days
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A green alert has been issued in all districts in the state today. There is a possibility of light rain. If we look at the situation for the next five days, there will be less rainfall in most districts on March 2. Light rains are likely on other days. Alappuzha and Kottayam will receive rain for all five days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of light rain in isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Palakkad of Kerala in the next three hours. The IMD has informed that there are no hurdles to fishing on the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today.
In the wake of the increasing heat in the state, the State Disaster Management Authority has issued the following precautionary instructions for the public High heat can cause many serious health problems including sunstroke, heatstroke, and dehydration. Therefore, the public should follow the following instructions.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm.
- Continue drinking water even if you are not thirsty. Drink as much fresh water as possible.
- Avoid dehydrating drinks such as alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated soft drinks during the day.
- Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothes.
- Wear footwear when going out. It is better to use an umbrella or hat.
- Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Encourage the use of ORS solution, sambaram, etc.
- There is a high risk of fires increasing and spreading in places like markets, buildings, and dumping yards. Fire audits should be conducted and proper safety precautions should be taken. Those living near these places and those running establishments should be especially vigilant.
- There is a possibility of forest fires spreading in the heat. Those living near forest areas and tourists should be especially vigilant.
