Nose piercings are a popular, versatile fashion trend worn for self-expression, aesthetic enhancement, and cultural significance. Ranging from subtle studs to bold hoops, this trend is adopted by all genders and is often influenced by celebrity fashion, social media, and a growing acceptance of body art. However, piercings done by a body piercer who does not know the secrets of the nose can be very dangerous.

The use of piercing guns has made nose piercings more accessible, quick, and "fear-free". While piercing guns may seem convenient, professional piercers and health authorities advise against their use due to significant health and safety risks. Reusable piercing guns cannot be properly sterilised in an autoclave, raising the risk of transmitting infections like hepatitis B, C, or HIV. Guns also cause more tissue trauma, leading to longer healing times and higher infection risks.

If an infection occurs in the area known as the danger triangle at the tip of the nose, it can directly affect the brain. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the nose is not pierced in this area. This requires special knowledge. It is also essential to properly care for the wound after piercing the nose.

The first thing to do is to apply a little salt water to the wound. Never touch the nose or wound without washing your hands. Bacteria on your hands are the cause of 90% of infections. Do not use excessive amounts of lotions or antiseptic creams on the wound.

Use quality metals like gold. Imitation jewellery allergies are common and can cause severe swelling, irritation, and, if not addressed, a severe infection. Jewellery that is too heavy, too large, or has a back that points into the nose can cause cartilage damage or become embedded, requiring surgery.
