The heat is increasing dangerously in Palakkad district. The ultraviolet index has been reported as four in the past few days. The UV index is relatively high in higher areas. Extreme heat has also been recorded in areas with surfaces such as water bodies and sand that reflect ultraviolet rays. The highest temperature in February was 34 degrees. Last year, the same time it was recorded as high as 38 degrees.

With the summer heat, the temperature may increase this time too. It is reported that the temperature is increasing both at night and during the day. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about the possibility of sunstroke. The District Labour Officer (Enforcement) has earlier instructed workers working outside to make adjustments in their working hours.

Meteorological Department's warning

  • The highest heat is from 10 am to 3 pm. Avoid going out during this time.
  • The working hours are from 7 am to 7 pm. Rest is mandatory from 12 pm to 3 pm.
  • Those working on a shift system should end their day shift at 12 pm.
  • Use a hat, umbrella, and sunglasses when going out during the day.
  • Wear cotton clothes that cover the entire body. Avoid wearing thick clothes.
  • Do not engage in work that requires excessive physical exertion in the sun.
  • Maintain the amount of water in the body.
  • Avoid coffee, tea, alcohol, carbonated drinks, and juices with excess sugar, which cause dehydration.
  • Protection against heat should be ensured at home as well. Ventilation should be ensured. Temperature should be regulated using fans and coolers.
