TEXAS: Three were killed, and more than a dozen people injured in a shooting that took place in a hotel that was popular among University of Texas students. The gunman, identified as Ndiaga Diagne, was shot and killed by police.

21-year-old Indian-origin student Savitha Shan was among those killed in the attack. Savitha was doing an honours degree at the university. The attack took place at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden, where students frequented.

The professors and the authorities of the University expressed shock over the incident and described Savitha as someone destined to make a difference in the world. Another professor of the university, Russ Finney, termed the incident as absolutely crushing and remembered Savitha as a superstar of the university and one of their brightest students.

Ryder Harrington, 19, who died at the scene, and Jorge Pederson, 30, are the other two victims of the attack. According to the BBC, the gunman was wearing a sweatshirt with the words "Property of Allah". He was also purportedly carrying an Iranian flag with him and pictures of leaders of the Islamic Republic.

The attack is said to be a revenge carried out in desperation over the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
