K K Shailaja to face polls in Peravoor and not Mattannur; P K Shyamala in Taliparambu, CPM candidates list for Kannur ready
KANNUR: Reports say the CPM candidates list for Kannur in the assembly elections has been finalized. The party has decided to field K K Shailaja in Peravoor instead of Mattanur constituency. The candidates’ list was finalized at the CPM Kannur district secretariat meeting. The leadership had informed that Shailaja could not be given Mattanur again. Following this, she informed the party that she was willing to contest from Peravoor, the sitting seat of the Congress.
Peravoor is presently the constituency of KPCC president Sunny Joseph. He is likely to contest in the next elections as well. K K Shailaja had won from Peravoor and entered the assembly in 2006. Shailaja had that time got a majority of 9000 votes. However, in the 2011 elections, Shailaja contested against Sunny Joseph, but lost to more than 3000 votes. CPM thinks that this time they can win the constituency using Shailaja's popularity. With Shailaja changing, DYFI state secretary V K Sanoj will be the candidate in Mattanur.
In Taliparambu, P K Shyamala, wife of CPM state secretary M V Govindan will contest in his seat. Shyamala is the district secretary and state joint secretary of the Democratic Women's Association. Karayi Rajan will contest from Thalassery constituency, which was won by Speaker A N Shamseer. T I Madhusudhanan will contest in Payyannur.
