KANNUR: A burgeoning rift has emerged within the CPI(M) ranks in Taliparamba following reports that P.K. Shyamala, wife of party State Secretary M.V. Govindan, may be nominated as the candidate for the upcoming assembly elections. A section of party workers and high-profile "cyber warriors" have publicly voiced their opposition, urging the leadership to prioritize public acceptance over internal affiliations.

The dissent, which has largely unfolded across social media platforms, reflects a growing anxiety among the grassroots regarding the party’s electoral prospects. Critics argue that ignoring the pulse of the electorate could lead to a political decline similar to the setbacks faced by the party in West Bengal and Tripura. Activists have cautioned that the "soil under the party's feet" is at risk of being washed away if the leadership fails to field a candidate with broader popular appeal.

Among those leading the charge is prominent social media presence Arjun Ayanki, who asserted that the people would ultimately "correct the party" if their concerns were sidelined. The dissenting notes emphasise that the current political climate necessitates a representative who understands the mind of the common citizen, rather than one perceived as a product of internal legacy.
