Israel attacks airport in Iran, passenger aircraft destroyed
TEHRAN: Israel has attacked an airport in Iran and destroyed a passenger aircraft. The incident took place at the airport in the southern port city of Bushehr. Visuals of an aircraft belonging to Iran Air burning have widely circulated on social media. The plane was reportedly parked at the airport at the time of the attack. Bushehr is a port city located along the Persian Gulf. It is also home to Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant.
It is not yet clear whether anyone was killed or injured in the incident. Reports also say that Mehrabad Airport, which handles domestic flights in Iran, was targeted in a separate attack. Various news agencies have released visuals of that incident.
As tensions escalate between the US-Israel alliance and Iran, Iran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any vessel attempting to pass through the waterway could be set on fire.
