Reneesha Rahiman, the actress who gained popularity through the reality show Bigg Boss, left the capital city yesterday in fullfillment having offered her first ever Attukal Pongala. However, a social media post mentioning the same did more harm than good for the actress as a legion of hardliners stormed to her page criticising her for committing unislamic practice during the holy month.

Many questioned her choice to offer the Pongala during the holy month, saying it was against the ethos of the religion. Some agitated ones even asked Reneesha to change her religion rather than embarrassing them, and do whatever she likes. The actress, rather than being shocked, decided to show her detractors their right place, saying that she had no remorse over offering Pongala and would continue to do things she feels right.

Albeit the criticism, many, including actors, came in support of Reneesha and shared their joy over the actress choosing to offer Pongala, a festival participated in by people of all religions.

The vile comments on the issue gave many an opportunity to question the touted secular ethos of Kerala. Many criticised that the same people who were vehemently protesting the release of the film ‘Kerala Story’, fearing it would rupture the secular ethos of the state, are now coming against Reneesha for offering Pongala. It seems like Reneesha is least bothered about the negative comments reaching her as she is continuing to post more photos from the Pongala festival, likely a befitting reply to her cynics.
