Student who did not pass degree granted PG admission; Governor removes Kalady Sanskrit University VC, Ciza Thomas given additional charge
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr K K Geethakumari, the Vice Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady, has been removed from her position for granting postgraduate admission to a student who had not passed the undergraduate degree. It was Governor Rajendra Arlekar who took action against the Vice Chancellor. Ciza Thomas, the Vice Chancellor of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, has been given additional charge of the Sanskrit University. The action was taken after a student who had failed the B.F.A. examination was given an M.F.A. admission.
The Governor had earlier blocked a Syndicate decision that attempted to pass the failed B.F.A. student. However, the Vice Chancellor reportedly refused to implement the Governor’s order. The Raj Bhavan had also asked the Vice Chancellor and the Controller of Examinations to produce the file related to the issue and submit an explanation. The Vice Chancellor reportedly did not comply with this instruction either.
Former Governor Arif Mohammed Khan had earlier appointed Prof. K K Geethakumari, who was the head of the Sanskrit Department at the University of Calicut, as the interim Vice Chancellor of the Sanskrit University.
